So, How Was 2018?

I’m writing this following a successful CV Clinic this week. Arriving and leaving in the dark had it’s compensations, not least the decorations around the Castle in Cardiff were nothing short of spectacular!

I got to thinking though, after seeing so many people this year who had their dreams shattered and lost jobs through redundancy this year. 2018 for so many people was no different to any of the years that I’ve been through so far as companies go bust, good people lose jobs and end up facing a pretty bleak New Year.

Take Control of Your Career in 2019

Two things have with me this year and in no particular order,

(1) Time most definitely waits for no-one

(2) There is no such thing as a job for life

I’ve literally lost count of the people I’ve met this year who have told me that they thought that their job was safe. So many have passed up the opportunity for promotion or better jobs simply out of loyalty for the company they work for and then ended up losing their job when cash got tight or business objectives changed.

I’m definitely not suggesting that people should not be loyal or do their best for their employer as of course they should do whatever they can. I’m simply saying that you owe it to yourself to make the most of your career, take that promotion or seek that new opportunity.

Will Brexit Stop Your Next Career Move?

In 2016, I really did think that we were going to leave the EU. In December 2018, things are les than certain. Are you going to let what may or may not happen in the political world to limit your career and stop you going for that promotion?

Politicians will do their best as they see it. I believe that if it is to be then it most definitely is going to be up to me.

Make 2019 Your Year

Whatever happens in the political or other worlds, the sun will rise tomorrow morning and will set again at night. By this time tomorrow night, you’ll be another day older and closer or further away from your dreams.

Get that CV dusted off, apply for that job and get your career going in the right direction. If you need some help, please go to the home page of the website, upload your CV and I’ll be happy to look it over for you. No strings, just happy to help.

It’s up to You

The simple truth is that your success and your career are your responsibility. The company that you work for is not responsible for your success, you are. Of course they should treat you properly, pay you promptly and provide a decent place to work but in the end, they only employ you for a simple reason. They employ you because they have a problem and you are the solution.

I use the analogy of dating when referring to the relationship between employee and employer quite a lot. It’s pretty simple really, both sides of the equation need to be happy and the problems only come when one side or another of the scales is tipped the wrong way.

Make 2019 Your Year!

Whatever 2018 was like for you then if you’re reading this, you’re still here and the best times can be ahead of you

I’ve loved working with people and helping so many this year and genuinely wish you health, happiness and prosperity in 2019, whatever path you decide to take.
